Tensions have flared between Mourinho and Eden Hazard following Chelsea’s elimination from the Champions League semi-final by Atletico Madrid.
The Belgian striker criticized his coach’s defensive tactics, suggesting that Chelsea were “not built to play football.” Mourinho swiftly responded to Hazard’s comments during a press conference.
“This statement was taken out of context by the media. However, it’s not surprising coming from Eden, who isn’t a player willing to give 100% for the team, something I find unacceptable. He needs to improve defensively. Willian and Schürrle cover for their full-backs when needed, whereas Eden fails to assess the situation and offer support on the left side,” remarked the Portuguese manager.
It appears Hazard may have faced a challenging time during the match debriefing.
