Promised a bright future with Olympique Lyonnais, Yassine Benzia has faced some challenges in confirming his potential this season. Despite being touted as the future of OL’s attack, the 19-year-old Franco-Algerian has only managed to score 2 goals in 18 appearances this season. While he hasn’t yet lived up to the high expectations placed on him in Lyon, he aspires to follow in the footsteps of his role model, Karim Benzema.
Despite receiving an offer from Rennes for a loan during the winter transfer window, Benzia remains committed to Lyon and hopes to prove himself on all fronts while wearing the OL jersey.
“I still have two years left on my contract with Lyon. This season has been a learning experience for me; I’m still young and have made mistakes, but they will help me in the future. Despite my suspension, I never gave up in training. It was gratifying to play in Ligue 1 again and contribute in my own way,” Benzia shared with Progrès.
