No coach would envy Gernot Rohr’s current situation. The Franco-German coach of the Niger national football team finds himself in a challenging predicament.
According to reports from L’Equipe, Rohr, along with his assistant, Jacky Bonnevay, have not received their salaries for the past six months.
“It has been six months since we last received any payment,” Rohr revealed, expressing his frustration with the situation.
“The Minister of Sports assured me that a solution would be found,” added the former Gabon Panthers coach, whose contract with Mena is set to expire on August 31.
Will he extend his contract with Niger? Rohr hasn’t ruled it out, but his priority is to receive his full salary first.
Whether this situation is due to negligence or lack of resources remains unclear. However, it’s not uncommon in many African countries, according to informed observers of African football.
