IFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke commenced his tour of World Cup venues at the São Paulo Arena in Itaquera, which will host the opening match of the tournament.
Accompanied by Aldo Rebelo, the Minister of Sport, and Ronaldo, a member of the Local Organizing Committee’s Board of Directors, Valcke participated in meetings with local authorities and inspected the stadium.
Valcke expressed confidence in the progress of the São Paulo Arena, stating that it will be ready for the opening match. He highlighted the upcoming test event on May 17 or 18, a Corinthians-Figueirense match, as crucial for checking the stadium’s structure. With almost 50 days until the opening, Valcke emphasized the need to work diligently to address any issues and ensure readiness for the tournament.
