In the 2014 President Cup’s second day of group stage matches, the Côte d’Ivoire’s Ecureuil cadets displayed a strong recovery. Under the guidance of Emile Enassoum, they secured a 2-1 victory against Benin in a highly entertaining match.
Previously, Benin had shown promising skills against Togo but fell short of securing a win. However, they rectified their situation against the Ivorians, who were entering the tournament. Evode Oreko capitalized on a hand fault by the Elephanteaux goalkeeper to score the opening goal just 10 minutes before halftime. After the break, Aaron Ibilola extended Benin’s lead with another goal, before Baba Traoré managed to pull one back for Ivory Coast.
With this victory, Benin now sits in 2nd place in Group A with 3 points, level with Togo, who have played one match. Ivory Coast occupies the bottom position with 0 points.
In the upcoming matches on April 23, Ivory Coast will face Togo, while Benin will have a rest day.
