The International Football Federation, FIFA, has issued a statement seeking to clarify the situation regarding the affiliation of Crimean clubs with the Russian Federation Football Union (RFU). According to FIFA, they have not received any formal request from the two Crimean clubs, FC Sevastopol and Tavria Simferopol, to join the Russian Federation.
Crimea currently has two clubs competing in the Ukrainian first division. Despite reports indicating that the RFU has initiated steps to incorporate the Crimean clubs and the Crimean Federation into the Russian Championship, FIFA asserts that no such request has been made to them.
