Guinean football clubs have reason to rejoice as the government has decided to significantly increase the prize money for the winner of the National Cup.
This year, the champion will receive 100,000,000 Guinean Francs, equivalent to approximately 10,607 euros, a substantial increase from the 35,000,000 GNF awarded to the winner last year. The runner-up will also receive a handsome sum of 50,000,000 GNF.
In addition to the boosted prize money, the Guinean Football Federation has introduced several innovations for this year’s competition. Clubs that forfeited during the 54th edition will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming 55th edition. Furthermore, a draw has been implemented at the 1/8 finals stage to add excitement and unpredictability to the tournament.
The eagerly awaited competition is set to kick off on May 16, 2014.
