Issa Hayatou and a delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently visited Rwanda to inspect the stadium projects in preparation for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2016. This visit coincided with the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda. Despite the significant work that still needs to be done, both Hayatou and Rwandan officials expressed optimism about Rwanda’s readiness to host the tournament.
Vincent Nzamwita, president of the Rwandan Football Federation and the Local Organizing Committee, reassured that Rwanda will be fully prepared to host the CHAN competition and aims to deliver the best edition yet. Hicham El Amrani, the secretary-general of CAF, echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in Rwanda’s capabilities based on their successful organization of previous tournaments. He mentioned that President Kagame has provided assurances of support for the event.
It was decided that the CHAN 2016 tournament will be hosted in three cities: Kigali, Huye, and Rubavu. With these preparations underway, Rwanda is committed to ensuring a successful and memorable tournament for all participants and spectators.
