Marcel Desailly believes that tonight’s match between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain remains unpredictable. Despite PSG’s 3-1 lead from the first leg, the former Chelsea captain suggests that Chelsea has a chance to advance, given their strong record at Stamford Bridge.
“The team has such a strong record at Stamford Bridge that we have reason to believe in them,” Desailly stated. “For a team like Chelsea, winning 2-0, especially at home, is achievable. PSG may find themselves in a less aggressive position than in the first leg, which could pose challenges for them. If Chelsea scores early like PSG did in the first leg, the dynamic of the game could change.”
Desailly emphasized PSG’s need to affirm their status as a top European club, even in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He believes that Edinson Cavani has the opportunity to step up and shine in Ibrahimovic’s absence.
“Until now, Cavani has been somewhat overshadowed in terms of media attention and performance, but now he has the chance to take center stage,” Desailly remarked.
Regarding the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge, Desailly downplayed its intimidating nature compared to other English stadiums like Anfield or St James’ Park.
“Stamford Bridge doesn’t have the same fiery atmosphere as other English stadiums like Liverpool or Newcastle,” he concluded.
