In the quest to find a replacement for José Anigo next season, Olympique de Marseille left no stone unturned in their pursuit of André Villas-Boas, the former coach of Tottenham.
Vincent Labrune initially attempted to persuade André Villas-Boas to join the club. This information was later confirmed by the Portuguese coach himself, shortly after his decision to sign with Zenit St. Petersburg. Despite the Marseille club’s efforts, Villas-Boas declined the offer due to perceived lack of sufficient sporting guarantees.
However, reports from L’Equipe revealed that Olympique de Marseille was willing to go to great lengths to secure Villas-Boas, offering him a staggering salary of 3.6 million euros per year. Despite this tempting offer, Villas-Boas opted to pursue other opportunities.
At present, Marseille is reportedly shifting its focus to Marcelo Bielsa as a potential candidate for the coaching position.
