In the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France, Lens, currently second in the French Ligue 2 standings, faced Monaco on Wednesday evening but suffered a crushing defeat with a scoreline of 6-0 at the Stade Louis II.
Following the match, Lens coach Antoine Kombouaré, a Franco-Burkinabe, acknowledged Monaco’s superiority and the deserving nature of their victory.
“We encountered a formidable Monaco team. There’s no denying their qualification. We conceded six goals, which was disappointing. They were very successful, and although we could have salvaged some pride, we had no luck on our side. Now, it’s back to the drawing board for us,” Kombouaré stated after the game.
This match highlighted the significant gap between the second-placed team in Ligue 1 and the second-placed team in Ligue 2.
