David Beckham has taken another step forward in his ambition to establish an MLS club in Miami, USA. On Monday, he announced plans to construct a stadium for his future team.
The proposed stadium will have a seating capacity of 35,000 and will be situated on 14.5 hectares of land in Port Miami, along the city’s waterfront. Valued at 144 million euros, the stadium will be located near the home arena of the Miami Heat basketball team. Additionally, the facility will include amenities such as a hotel, a shopping mall, and a parking lot.
Beckham expressed his vision for the stadium, stating, “I asked my team to develop ideas for the stadium to incorporate the best of Miami. Even though we are only at the beginning of the process of building our team, I believe we have come up with something that Miami can be proud of and that will resonate around the world.”
The stadium is projected to be completed by 2018. In the interim period before its construction, Beckham’s club, slated to join the MLS in 2017, may utilize existing venues such as the Marlins baseball stadium or the American football stadium of the Dolphins.
