The fate of immigrant workers on the construction sites for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has drawn significant attention, with FIFA being brought into the spotlight regarding its responsibility in this matter. FIFA’s president, Joseph Blatter, acknowledged the organization’s share of responsibility but emphasized that FIFA cannot directly intervene in workers’ rights issues.
Blatter stated that FIFA insists that the primary responsibility lies with the state of Qatar and the companies that employ the workers. However, he also expressed FIFA’s commitment to using football as a means to address and resolve the problems faced by immigrant workers in Qatar.
The issue of immigrant workers’ rights in Qatar was discussed during a press conference after a meeting of FIFA’s executive committee, indicating that FIFA recognizes the importance of addressing this issue in the context of hosting the World Cup.
