Eliaquim Mangala, the central defender of FC Porto, recently expressed his desire to represent the French national team, despite being linked with a move to Manchester City during the recent winter transfer window. Speaking on the airwaves of RMC, Mangala stated, “Even when I left France, I have always been attached to the country. I have always supported France. It never left me. I never once thought about changing my nationality or playing for another country. It’s always been in me. And that’s natural.”
Despite his attachment to France, Mangala has found success and development during his time at Porto. “This is my 3rd season there. I’ve made quite a bit of progress. I was lucky enough to be able to play in the Champions League and the Europa League. To win titles,” he said. “This season, it’s a little more complicated in the championship. But it’s clear that Porto allowed me to reach new levels and evolve. I am very grateful to this club. And then, Porto allows me a great exposure in Europe.”
