Requins FC, currently positioned 15th in the Benin Football League standings, has found itself in hot water after a recent altercation involving their supporters and the visiting team’s bus. The league has imposed a hefty fine of 100,000 CFA francs on the club for their role in the incident, which occurred ahead of their match against Espoir FC.
According to eyewitnesses, tensions escalated outside the stadium before kickoff when Requins FC supporters clashed with officials from Espoir FC, who were attempting to enter the stadium premises with their team bus.
Despite efforts by the match commissioner to mediate the situation and facilitate the visiting team’s entry, Requins FC supporters adamantly refused, citing directives from their club officials.
“As the players of Espoir de Savalou were denied entry, they were compelled to disembark from the bus and make their way to the stadium on foot,” a witness recounted.
Following the altercation, the Benin Football Federation’s Organization and Approval Commission took swift action, imposing a fine of 100,000 CFA francs on Requins FC in accordance with league regulations.
Despite the disruption, Espoir FC emerged victorious with a decisive 3-0 win over Requins FC in the subsequent match.
The incident highlights the importance of maintaining sportsmanship and fair play both on and off the field.
