Shalane Lehohla has been appointed as the new head coach of the Lesotho women’s national team, Mehalalitoe. With the weight of expectation upon him, Lehohla outlined his vision and aspirations for the team’s future during a recent meeting with the President of the Lesotho Football Federation (LEFA), Mr. Salemane Phafane.
Coach Khojane, who sadly passed away on February 17 after a brief illness, had steered the Lesotho national team for the past two years.
In the wake of his demise, LEFA swiftly moved to fill the void, entrusting Lehohla with the responsibility of guiding Mehalalitoe forward.
Bringing a wealth of coaching experience, including stints with various national teams and holding a CAF A license, Lehohla expressed his unwavering commitment to revitalizing Mehalalitoe’s fortunes.
One of his primary objectives is to enhance the team’s competitiveness, particularly in major tournaments like the COSAFA Women’s Championship, where Lesotho has faced challenges progressing beyond the group stages in recent years.
In preparation for his new role, Lehohla had already assumed leadership during the recent Four Nations Tournament organized by LEFA.
This hands-on experience provides him with valuable insights into the team dynamics and areas for improvement.
Currently, his focus lies on preparing the Lesotho women’s national team for an upcoming international friendly against Botswana scheduled for April 8.
As Lehohla takes the helm, the eyes of the nation are upon him, hopeful for a new era of success and progress for Mehalalitoe.
With his expertise and dedication, coupled with the support of LEFA and the entire footballing community, Lesotho’s women’s football is poised for a bright future under his guidance.
