Last Monday marked Didier Drogba’s return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since his departure just over a year ago. While he will officially step onto the London pitch on Tuesday evening for the 8th final return leg of the Champions League against Chelsea, the Galatasaray striker expressed his joy at returning to a stadium where he spent 8 seasons.
During the pre-match press conference, Drogba emphasized that his focus is solely on helping his current team qualify for the next round. “But I haven’t proven anything,” he stated. “I’m coming here with another team, I just want to qualify. There is nothing personal against Chelsea.”
Despite Galatasaray being held to a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg, Drogba made it clear that he would not celebrate if he scored on Tuesday. “I have too much respect for Chelsea and their fans,” he explained. “But if we win, I will be happy.”
