The Sochaux players have not had many reasons to smile this season, but on Saturday, they could finally let their joy burst forth. FCSM secured their fourth consecutive home win with a 2-0 victory over Lorient. Despite their struggles this season, coach Hervé Renard still believes strongly in the team’s chances of avoiding relegation.
The scoring opened early in the 7th minute when Roy Contout found the back of the net, setting the tone for Sochaux’s dominance. However, it wasn’t until the 79th minute that Stoppila Sunzu, the Zambian defender who joined in January, sealed the victory with his third goal of the season, all of them headers.
A notable moment in the match was the return to competition of Togolese player Razak Boukari. Despite suffering from multiple injuries since his arrival on loan from Wolverhampton last summer, Boukari made only his third appearance of the season for Sochaux.
Following this victory, Sochaux remains in 19th position but has narrowed the gap to five points behind Evian TG, the first team outside the relegation zone. Evian TG suffered a 0-1 defeat at home against Valenciennes, who are also in the relegation zone.
For Razak Boukari, this match marked only his third appearance in a Sochaux jersey in Ligue 1 this season.
