Yacine Adli, the AC Milan midfielder, has reaffirmed his decision to represent France despite interest from Algeria, shedding light on his choice in an interview with Gazzetta Delo Sport.
Amid speculation surrounding his international allegiance, Adli clarified that while he harbors no ill will towards Algeria, he ultimately opted to play for France due to its stature as a footballing powerhouse, contrasting it with what he perceives as Algeria’s ongoing development in the sport.
“I hold Algeria dear to my heart, but when it comes to playing football, I have chosen to represent the French team. I aspire to compete at the highest level,” Adli stated in his interview with Gazzetta Delo Sport.
The 23-year-old midfielder disclosed that he had engaged in discussions with Djamel Belmadi, the former coach of Algeria’s national team, expressing mutual interest in Adli’s inclusion in the squad.
However, following Belmadi’s departure, Adli indicated that the situation became uncertain, leading him to reaffirm his commitment to France.
“I had conversations with Djamel Belmadi, and initially, prospects looked promising. He expressed keen interest in my abilities. Unfortunately, with his departure, the situation became complex,” Adli explained.
