FC Barcelona had a chance to narrow the gap to just one point behind Real Madrid, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Things were going well for the Blaugrana as they led 2-1 against Almeria, courtesy of a superb goal from Lionel Messi, who scored a magnificent free kick.
Following their 3-1 defeat to Real Sociedad the previous weekend, another loss would have been a setback for Barcelona. Alexis Sanchez initiated the attack with a goal in the 9th minute, followed by Messi’s exquisite free kick. However, there was no time to celebrate as Trujillo managed to reduce the deficit.
With this goal, Messi’s tally stands at 309 goals in 409 matches.
Messi has now amassed 340 goals for Barcelona in 409 official appearances.
