Bérenger-Aymard Bosse, a Central African athlete, achieved a remarkable feat by clinching third place in the 60 meters event at the French Indoor Athletics Championships held in Bordeaux. Despite the challenges faced in his homeland, the Central African Republic, amidst a severe crisis, Bosse remains determined to excel in the 2014 season.
In an interview with RFI, Bosse expressed optimism about his prospects, stating, “I’ve been gearing up for the World Indoor Championships, and so far, things are going well. My coach and support team believe I can spring a surprise.”
However, Bosse highlighted the disparity in support for athletics compared to football or basketball, lamenting the lack of backing from Central African authorities. As the sole representative of his country on the international stage, he desires greater recognition and support for athletics.
Amidst the turmoil in the Central African Republic, Bosse faced additional challenges, admitting, “Initially, I was very stressed during training, unable to relax. Fortunately, I have the support of my colleagues and those around me. I realized that not training wouldn’t alter the situation, so I focused on utilizing training to escape from reality.”
Despite the disruptions to his preparation, Bosse remains hopeful for a swift resolution to the crisis and a peaceful transition. He finds solace in the safety of his family in Bangui, acknowledging the impact of the situation on his morale.
Having spent nine years away from his homeland, Bosse contemplates returning to his roots in the future. However, his immediate focus remains on his preparations for the upcoming World Championships.
