The troubling trend of violence in Tunisian stadiums continues to escalate, with a recent incident resulting in serious injury to football player Oussama Husseini. The player, representing Sfaxien Sports Club, sustained a skull fracture after being struck by a stone thrown by spectators during a match against Gabès.
Dr. Habib Aich, the team doctor for Sfaxien Sports Club, described the severity of Husseini’s injury, noting that he would likely require surgery following examination by a neurosurgeon. The president of the football section of CSS, Naceur Bedoui, revealed that the stone thrown at Husseini weighed between 500 to 700 grams.
The incident occurred during a goalless draw match between Sfax and Gabès, underscoring the ongoing issue of violence between supporters that often spills onto the field, endangering players. Since the Tunisian revolution of January 2011, matches have frequently been played without spectators or with significantly reduced attendance due to safety concerns.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, the Tunisian Football Federation had not issued a response to this latest incident, highlighting the need for urgent measures to address the growing problem of violence in Tunisian stadiums.
