Raphael Varane, who has been absent from the Real Madrid squad for an extended period due to a knee injury, is slowly but steadily reintegrating himself into the team. The former Lens player is also eyeing a potential participation in the World Cup with the French national team next June. However, former Real Madrid player Antonio Maceda believes that Varane should reconsider his aspirations for the upcoming tournament.
Maceda’s advice stems from his own experience of enduring a lengthy injury that sidelined him from competition for an extended period. He urges Varane not to risk exacerbating his condition.
“If you opt out of the next World Cup due to not feeling completely fit, you could potentially play in four more. At the age of 20, the desire to participate is understandable, but experience will guide you in determining whether it’s prudent to do so. If Varane chooses to compete in this World Cup, he might jeopardize his chances of playing in the subsequent three. Moreover, if Varane rushes his return and aggravates his knee, he might face the possibility of permanent damage,” Maceda explained in AS.
