One of the notable inclusions in Alain Giresse’s squad for the upcoming FIFA date on March 5 against Mali in Saint Leu (a suburb of Paris) is Lys Gomis, the goalkeeper of Torino in the Italian Serie A.
On his Facebook account, Gomis confirmed his selection by posting, “I have received the call-up from the national coach of the Lions of Senegal, Alain Giresse, for the match against the Eagles of Mali, scheduled for March 5.”
This marks a return for Gomis, who was previously called up to the Senegal national team in 2009 when he was just 20 years old. However, during his first stint under coach Lamine Ndiaye, he did not have the opportunity to showcase his abilities and remained on the bench throughout.
Expressing his hope for a different outcome this time around, Gomis stated, “I hope that this time, I will play… because it is a dream for me to participate in Senegal’s upcoming matches.”
Despite limited playing time for Torino this season, with only 39 minutes of play, Gomis remains determined to seize the opportunity to represent Senegal on the international stage. He faces stiff competition from Daniele Padelli, Torino’s starting goalkeeper, but is eager to make his mark for the Lions of Senegal.
