Former Springbok and 1995 Rugby World Cup winner Brendan Venter expresses optimism about Kenya’s performance in the upcoming Vodacom Cup in South Africa.
Currently serving as the technical director of Saracens in the English Premiership, Venter believes that the club, which will compete as Tusker Simba’s XV, possesses the necessary qualities to compete against the top teams in the tournament.
The Simba XV will be making their debut in the competition, which kicks off on the weekend of March 7-8 and culminates with the final scheduled for May 16-17.
Addressing the audience at the Impala club on Monday evening, Venter highlighted that the tournament presents Kenyan players with an invaluable opportunity to measure themselves against the top clubs in South Africa.
As the only foreign team featured in the tournament, the Simba XV’s participation is the result of collaborative efforts between the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), South African Rugby Union (Saru), and Western Province. Venter emphasized, “South African clubs are known for their physicality, and it will be interesting to see how the Kenyan team adapts to this. However, I believe that the boys are capable of rising to the challenge.”
