Nacer Chadli scored his first goal for Tottenham in their 4-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park during the 25th round of the Premier League. Despite this being Chadli’s 15th appearance in the English league, most of his playing time has come as a substitute. He has only played 810 minutes in the Premier League since the start of the season and faces tough competition for playing time on the wings. However, Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood plans to reposition him in a more central role in the future.
Despite his substitute status, the Belgian international of Moroccan origin chose to remain at White Hart Lane during the winter transfer window despite interest from several English and foreign clubs. Chadli expressed his satisfaction with staying at Tottenham, stating, “I was aware of the interest but I was determined to stay at Tottenham. I’m happy to have a five-year contract here. The competition is tough, but I just have to keep working hard.”
