The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued a warning to the Norwegian Olympic Committee regarding the wearing of black armbands by Norwegian cross-country skiers during the skiathlon event at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. The IOC stated that wearing black armbands in competition to commemorate the memory of a deceased loved one is not allowed. This decision came after members of the Norwegian team, including future Olympic champion Marit Bjoergen, wore black armbands in memory of the brother of their teammate Astrid Jacobsen, who had passed away suddenly.
