As reported by Africa Top Sports.com, Pape Diouf, the former president of OM (Olympique de Marseille), has thrown his hat into the ring for the upcoming municipal elections in Marseille. However, according to a recent poll conducted by Ifop for 20 Minutes and iTélé, he is only projected to garner 4% of voting intentions.
This disappointing result suggests that Diouf’s chances of advancing to the second round or merging with another list are slim. Frédéric Dabi, deputy director general of Ifop, remarked on the setback, noting that it poses a challenge for Diouf and potentially embarrasses his opponent, Patrick Mennucci.
The poll also indicates that Jean-Claude Gaudin of the UMP (Union for a Popular Movement) would likely emerge victorious against Patrick Mennucci of the PS (Socialist Party) in the mayoral race. Gaudin is projected to receive 41% of the voting intentions in the second round, while Mennucci trails closely behind with 39%.
In a recent statement, Pape Diouf expressed his motivation for running for mayor, citing a desire to bring about positive change and unity in Marseille. He emphasized the need for reconciliation and a fresh perspective in city leadership.
Diouf also expressed his concern about OM’s performance, highlighting the club’s lackluster showing in the Champions League group stage. He emphasized the importance of passion and ambition in revitalizing the club’s fortunes.
Despite the challenging poll results, Diouf remains committed to his vision of revitalizing Marseille and OM, emphasizing the city’s potential and the importance of restoring its rightful place.
