Blatter’s intentions have become increasingly clear, and he has indicated that if the member federations request him to be a candidate, he will not refuse. He plans to officially announce his candidacy before the FIFA Congress in Sao Paulo in June 2014, ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
Having been the president of FIFA since 1998, Blatter is seeking to extend his tenure, much like Issa Hayatou, the vice-president of FIFA who has been at the helm of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 1988.
However, Blatter may face opposition, particularly from former FIFA deputy secretary general Jérôme Champagne, who has declared his candidacy for the presidency. Additionally, Michel Platini, the president of UEFA, has yet to announce his decision regarding a potential candidacy.
Despite potential challengers, Blatter’s long-standing experience and connections within FIFA may give him an advantage in the upcoming election.
