Ivory Coast’s plans for their preparation camp ahead of the 2014 World Cup have hit a snag, as they will no longer be heading to Portugal as initially planned. Sabri Lamouchi, the national team coach, cited logistical concerns and is now in search of an alternative host territory. The decision was made to ensure optimal conditions for the players’ physical well-being.
“We had originally selected and announced Portugal as our preparation camp destination. However, this is no longer feasible because it would require us to play our preparation matches away from our base, which could compromise the players’ physical freshness,” Lamouchi explained on the official website of the Ivorian football federation.
The new destination for the Ivory Coast team’s preparation is yet to be determined. Lamouchi provided an update on the team’s readiness, stating, “We are 90% ready.”
Additionally, the Ivorian federation dismissed rumors of a friendly match against Honduras. This announcement coincides with the team’s participation confirmation in an 8-a-side tournament in the United States alongside Spain and other World Cup-qualified teams, scheduled from May 27 to June 10.
