Former Cameroon coach Jean Paul Akono has suffered another setback in his health. Having previously battled anorexia last October, the ex-manager of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon has been admitted to the Yaoundé general hospital, thanks to intervention from the Presidency of the Republic.
“For almost four days, he has been unable to eat and is experiencing difficulty speaking. Today, he fell into a coma. We really need to pray for him,” disclosed a close friend of Volker Finke’s predecessor. The highest office in the nation is coordinating efforts to have him transferred to a hospital in Europe. “The Presidency has instructed for Akono’s immediate evacuation to a European hospital. All necessary documents have been prepared for his transfer. He will be leaving Yaoundé shortly.”
This relapse is believed to be due to complications in his treatment follow-up. “Since November, he has experienced significant weight loss and appears frail. He is not eating properly… He is suffering, and it’s evident whenever we see him. I won’t sugarcoat it; his condition is very serious,” shared Christian Mballa Mekongo, one of his close associates, with cameroun-info.net.
Despite the need for regular check-ups, Akono has struggled to regain his health with the expected stability. His deteriorating health has become increasingly concerning, deeply affecting his family and loved ones.
In June 2013, thanks to Samuel Eto’o’s assistance, Jean Paul Akono was transported to a hospital in France for treatment. However, despite receiving a three-month visa, renewable in case of illness, he returned home claiming to be cured before the completion of his treatment. Upon his return, he engaged in a dispute with the Minister of Sports over what he perceived to be unpaid wages, adding to his stress and anxiety.
