The 34th Dakar Rally, scheduled from January 5 to 20, 2013, will follow a route from Lima in Peru to Santiago in Chile. The rally will cover approximately 8,400 km, with half of it consisting of timed “specials” across Peru, Chile, and Argentina. The course will include two jumps in the Andes Cordillera and a large loop in Argentina.
A total of 459 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and trucks, are set to participate in the rally. The event will feature top drivers such as the last three car category winners, Stephan Peterhansel, Nasser Al-Attiyah, and Carlos Sainz.
The 2013 Dakar Rally marks the fifth edition of the race in Latin America, and the organizers, including Etienne Lavigne, presented the details of the route during a press conference in Paris. Notable additions to the competition include the return of Carlos Sainz to the car category and Honda’s comeback to the motorcycle category after a hiatus since 1992.
