In a tightly contested match, Libya emerged victorious over Gabon in the quarter-finals of the 2014 African Nations Championship. After a goalless first half, Abdelsalam Omar’s clever lob put Libya in the lead early in the second half. However, Gabon fought back, with Daniel Cousin converting a penalty in the 75th minute to level the score.
With neither team able to break the deadlock in regulation time or extra time, the match went to a penalty shootout. Despite misses from Alain Djissikadie and Bonaventure Sokambi for Gabon, Libya held their nerve and secured a 4-2 victory in the shootout.
In the semi-finals, Libya will face Zimbabwe, who defeated Mali 2-1 in their quarter-final match. The winner of the Ghana vs. DR Congo match will complete the final four lineup.
