Africa Sport in Abidjan has a new president. The Vert et Rouge club of Côte d’Ivoire, which has been embroiled in an administrative crisis for over a season, held an elective general assembly this Saturday in accordance with the decision taken following the adoption of its new statutes. Alexis Vagba, seen holding the microphone in the photo, has taken the reins of the club.
A total of 184 voters gathered in Plateau (a commune of Abidjan) on Saturday to establish the new executive committee of Africa Sport. Two candidates contested the presidency, and at the end of the election, Alexis Vagba secured victory with 126 votes, defeating Didier Mambè N’Guessan who received 58 votes. This election marks the conclusion of the mandate of the provisional administrator Cheickna Sylla, who was appointed by the FIF to oversee the resolution of the crisis. “(…) Let us begin reconciliation by extending a hand to others,” declared the new president of Africa Sport.
Koné Cheick Omar, reinstated to his position by the MAM (Mobilized Associate Members) during the first half of the month, did not run in this election. Priva Oula, elected mediator of the club, faces the challenging task of reconciling the Africa Sport family. Alexis Vagba and his team have a four-year mandate to steer the club back on track in Ivorian football.
