After a month of deliberation, the English Football Association (FA) has decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Nicolas Anelka for his “quenelle” gesture performed last month following a goal against West Ham in the Premier League (3-3).
The West Bromwich striker may face sanctions for the controversial gesture made on December 28, and he has until the next game to contest the proceedings. Anelka’s actions led to the loss of sponsorship from Zoopla for his club. Despite this, West Bromwich Albion opted to include him in the lineup on Monday evening against Everton (1-1) following the FA’s decision.
In response to the support from his club, Anelka expressed gratitude on his official social media accounts, stating, “A big thank you to my club for supporting me in this matter and also to the West Brom fans who were magnificent this evening.” The situation continues to unfold as the disciplinary process unfolds.
