SENEGAL: ALL STADIUMS CLOSED FOR REPAIRS IN HIGH SEASON

The announcement of the imminent closure and renovation of the Demba Diop Stadium, along with the ongoing construction work at the Léopold Senghor Stadium, has triggered mixed reactions in Senegal. While some parts of the public welcome the news, others express concerns, particularly about the impact on sports events.

The closure of these two stadiums, considered the most functional in Senegal, would result in the suspension of the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 football championships, as well as the interruption of all wrestling matches with significant events scheduled between April and July.

This decision has raised fears and questions among the sporting community. Critics wonder why such renovations and construction activities are starting at a time when sports activities are in full swing. Some argue that it might have been more prudent to wait until the end of June or July to initiate such projects.

The debate surrounding this decision is intensifying in Senegal, and concerns are growing about the potential crisis that could arise if major sporting events, especially football and wrestling, are temporarily halted.
