Yohann Thuram, currently on loan to Charlton from Standard Liège, is set to make his debut this Saturday, starting in the 20th position for the Championship match against Middlesbrough. Despite limited playing time at Standard Liège, the former Troyes goalkeeper expressed his eagerness to embrace competition once again.
In an interview with La Derniere Heure, Thuram revealed, “It’s a taste that I’ve lost in recent months, I miss it. Before coming here, I had a long discussion with the management of Standard. The aim of my loan to Charlton is to regain playing time to return even stronger to Standard next season and get back on a healthy footing. I signed for four years at Standard, it’s not for nothing. My goal is to establish myself as a starter.”
Reflecting on the challenges he faced in the first six months at Standard Liège, Thuram mentioned, “It was more complicated than I thought when I arrived at Standard. I especially remember the European Cup matches. It was also to discover this that I signed with Standard. I tasted it and it makes me want to do it again next season. For the rest, it’s in the past, and I prefer to focus on the future.”
Explaining his decision to join Charlton Athletic, Thuram stated, “I had the possibility of returning to Ligue 1, but with all respect I have for the French championship, and although I am flattered to still generate interest in Ligue 1, I was excited at the idea of discovering English football. This will allow me to develop other aspects of my game. I am a competitor and I can’t wait to live this new experience. I’m going to give it my all!”
