Al-Ahly prepares light training as Al-Zamalek awaits: final cup showdown
In anticipation of the highly awaited clash against Zamalek, Al-Ahly Football Club is engaging in light physical training sessions.
The encounter between Al-Ahly and Zamalek is scheduled for this evening, Friday, in the final match of the 2022/2023 Egypt Cup season, set to take place in Riyadh.
Marcel Koller, the head coach of Al-Ahly, has decided to conduct a light physical training session for the players at the team’s accommodation, following the tailored workload program designed by the coaching staff to ensure the players are adequately prepared.
Additionally, Koller will deliver a final briefing to the players before departing from the team’s accommodation, gearing up for the face-off against Zamalek, which will determine the winner of the Egypt Cup.
During the briefing, the team’s head coach will discuss tactical instructions, strategic aspects, and the roles expected from each player during the crucial match.
Following the conclusion of the Zamalek encounter in the Egypt Cup final, the Al-Ahly delegation will immediately return to Cairo.
It has been decided that Al-Ahly will sport a kit comprising a red jersey, black shorts, and red socks, while the goalkeeper will wear an entirely blue outfit.
Conversely, Zamalek will don an all-white kit, with their goalkeeper clad in a full yellow ensemble.
The match will kick off at 7:30 PM Cairo time. In the event of a draw at the end of regular and extra time, the match will proceed to an additional 30-minute period consisting of two halves.
If the draw persists, the winner will be determined through a penalty shootout from the penalty spot.
The game will be held at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking the first time the Egypt Cup final has been hosted outside the country.
Each participating club will receive $100,000, with the winner awarded $350,000 and the runner-up receiving an additional $150,000.
This decision precedes Turki Al-Sheikh’s announcement of an additional prize of $500,000 from the Riyadh Season for the team clinching the title.
Thus, the Egypt Cup champions will receive a total of $950,000.
Additionally, the best player of the match will be awarded a prize of $50,000.
Zamalek advanced to the final after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Pyramids, following a 3-3 draw at the end of both regular and extra time in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, Al-Ahly secured their spot in the final with a 3-1 win over ENPPI in the other semi-final.
Al-Ahly is aiming for their 39th title in the club’s history, while Zamalek is vying for their 29th cup triumph.
