Dutch-Liberian midfielder John Ola has signed with Hamburg, as reported by the daily Bild. The agreement is a loan deal without a purchase option, and Ola John will be with the German club until the end of the season. The midfielder is set to undergo his medical examination on Friday.
The signing is intended to fill the void left by the injured Maximilian Beiste, who is expected to be sidelined until July 2014. Ola John’s journey to professional football is marked by his family’s escape from Liberia during the First Liberian Civil War when he was two years old. They settled in the Netherlands, and Ola John made his first visit back to Africa in 2009 during the Under-17 World Cup.
Ola John received his first call-up to the senior national team in February 2012, playing in a friendly match against England at Wembley under manager Bert van Marwijk.
