In their opening match at the African Nations Championship (CHAN), Gabon faced a tough challenge against Burundi, resulting in a goalless draw (0-0). Despite being the favorites with a more experienced team and winning the CEMAC, the Panthers couldn’t secure a victory. Numerous missed opportunities, including one by captain Daniel Cousin, contributed to Gabon’s inability to find the net. The draw against Burundi is not an ideal start for Gabon in the competition. In the other group match, the Democratic Republic of Congo defeated Mauritania 1-0, taking the lead in Group D. Gabon’s next match is against DR Congo, and Mauritania will face Burundi in the upcoming fixtures.
