In their first major competition appearance, Mauritania performed well against the experienced Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the CHAN tournament. The Mourabitounes lost 1-0 to the Leopards, with Eddy Ngoyi Emomo converting a penalty early in the second half. Despite several chances, Mauritania couldn’t equalize, and their task became harder when captain Moussa Bakha received a second yellow card, resulting in a red card. The DR Congo managed their lead well, securing the victory. The Leopards’ midfielder, Lema Mabidi, was named the “Man of the Match.” Gabon and Burundi are the other teams in the group.
