Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, the Newcastle player responsible for the tackle that led to Samir Nasri’s injury, expressed his feelings about the incident. Yanga-Mbiwa stated that his intention was to unbalance Nasri and prevent him from moving forward. He explained that there was no malice behind the tackle but acknowledged the unfortunate consequence of Nasri’s injury.
Despite the violent nature of the tackle, Yanga-Mbiwa insisted that he had no bad intentions and expressed remorse for the incident. He mentioned trying to contact Nasri to apologize verbally but had not received a response at that time. The Newcastle player was relieved to hear that Nasri would only be absent for eight weeks, considering the initial concerns that his World Cup participation might be at risk.
