Michel Platini has expressed disappointment with the 2013 Ballon d’Or results, where Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the award for the second time. Ronaldo received 27.99% of the votes, surpassing Lionel Messi (24.72%) and Franck Ribéry (23.36%). Platini, the UEFA president, criticized the shift in focus from on-pitch results to overall player performance, stating, “For 50 years, the Ballon d’Or took into account the results on the pitch. Here, it is rather based on the overall performance of the players, and that poses a problem.”
In response, Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledged Ribéry’s outstanding achievements, calling him “an outstanding player” who won numerous trophies and deserved recognition.
