Emerse Faé, the current coach of the Ivory Coast national team, has expressed his admiration and appreciation for the work done by Jean-Louis Gasset during the AFCON 2023 tournament, despite the coaching transition in the middle of the competition. In an exclusive interview with L’Equipe, Faé acknowledged Gasset’s significant contribution to the team’s success.

When questioned about Gasset’s role in the team’s triumph and whether he considers him an African Champion, Faé responded unequivocally, stating, “But of course! He is 100% part of the title adventure; he has only missed two weeks since June 2022. And who would have sacrificed like that? Person.”

Faé’s acknowledgment of Gasset’s pivotal role reflects the camaraderie and mutual respect among the coaching staff, highlighting the collective effort that contributed to the team’s success in the African Cup of Nations.

In a classy gesture, Faé revealed that he had contacted Gasset before taking charge of Olympique de Marseille, where Gasset currently serves as the head coach. Despite Gasset’s busy schedule, Faé sent him a message to offer encouragement.

Faé expressed pride in witnessing Gasset’s successful start at Marseille, stating, “I’m proud to see him start so well. But that doesn’t surprise me.”

Jean-Louis Gasset’s tenure at Olympique de Marseille has indeed been impressive, with three consecutive victories and a remarkable 12 goals scored.

Gasset has quickly endeared himself to the Marseille faithful, making history as the first OM coach to win his first three matches since Otto Gloria in 1962.

Gasset’s positive impact at Marseille serves as a testament to his coaching acumen and resilience, countering initial skepticism and criticism.

As the seasoned coach continues to lead Marseille to success, Faé’s acknowledgment adds a touch of sportsmanship and unity in celebrating shared accomplishments in the world of football.
