Ahmed Diab, President of the Egyptian Clubs Association, has emphasized that the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the crisis of overlapping seasons in the league, making it imperative to intervene to find urgent solutions to this issue through an exceptional season.
Diab stated in an interview on the “Al Captain” program with Ahmed Hassan on the “dmc” channel, “We have had 183 days of suspension during the current season due to the national team’s commitments and the clubs participating in African tournaments.
This has raised an alarm bell towards the necessity of resorting to the proposed Belgian system, which is currently being studied among 14 systems of leagues around the world.”
He further added, “Any step regarding the league will be taken with the clubs’ consent, and the best solution is to return to the normal schedule to deal with the congestion of fixtures.
The Tunisian league consists of two groups, and the Moroccan league does not stop during the international agenda due to the Moroccan national team’s reliance on professional players.”
Diab highlighted ongoing communication with the clubs, stating, “There is continuous communication with the clubs, and consultations are ongoing with everyone.
The file is still in its early stages, and efforts are underway for the benefit of Egyptian football.”
He also pointed out that “all of Al Ahly’s postponed matches are within the regulations, and there is an international agenda and requests from the national team’s coaching staff, which we support.
There is no problem in selecting the clubs participating in African tournaments.”
