Munir Thabet, the former president of the Egyptian Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee, has passed away at the age of 88, it was announced on Sunday.
Thabet served as the president of the Egyptian Olympic Committee from 1990 to 1992 during his first tenure, before returning to the position from 1996 until 2009, marking his second term.
The Egyptian Olympic Committee mourned Thabet’s death, stating, “The board of directors mourns one of its dedicated men who worked on developing Egyptian sports during his presidency of the Olympic Committee.”
They extended their condolences and prayers for Thabet, expressing hope that he would find peace in the hereafter.
