Hossam Hassan, the head coach of Egypt’s national team, has left out Mohamed Elneny from the Pharaohs’ squad for the March camp, which includes seven professionals for a friendly tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
The exclusion of Mohamed Elneny from Egypt’s national team roster has raised eyebrows across football circles, with speculation rife about the reasons behind the decision.
According to an insider within Egypt’s national team, speaking exclusively to The Nation Sport, Elneny’s absence stems from his limited playing time at Arsenal, particularly following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The source revealed, “Mohamed Elneny has been omitted from Egypt’s national team roster due to his lack of involvement with Arsenal. Since his return from the Africa Cup of Nations, he has only featured in two matches, against West Ham for a total of 23 minutes and Newcastle for just one minute, amounting to a mere 24 minutes of playtime. This is insufficient to warrant his inclusion in the national team.”
The source emphasized that “the door to the national team remains open to everyone,” hinting that Elneny could earn a recall once he resumes regular playing time with his English club.
