Cristiano Ronaldo adds another award to his collection, setting the stage for what seems to be a strong candidacy for the upcoming Ballon d’Or, where he is considered the frontrunner. While on vacation in Qatar, the Real Madrid star received the “Dubai’s Globe Soccer Award” during a ceremony where he was the sole candidate in attendance. Ronaldo secured 58% of the votes, leaving his long-time rival Lionel Messi with only 9%.
This accolade follows Ronaldo’s earlier recognition as the best player in the Spanish Liga, an honor bestowed by the daily Marca. As anticipation builds, football enthusiasts will have to wait until January 13, 2014, to discover whether Ronaldo will claim the Ballon d’Or for the second time.
