TOGO: THE SELECTION IN CRISIS ON THE EVE OF THE CAN! – REACTIONS AND SURVEYS-

Togo 300x185 1

Emmanuel Adebayor, the Tottenham striker and captain of the Togo national team, has announced a temporary suspension of his international career with the Togo Eperviers ahead of the CAN 2013. Adebayor cited an “unhealthy” atmosphere within the team as the reason for his decision. This move comes amid a broader crisis within the Togo national team, marked by concerns over bonuses, financial transparency, and alleged divisions among players. Adebayor, who had previously returned to the national team, expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s preparation and called attention to issues with the Togolese Football Federation. The captain’s decision further complicates the team’s prospects in the challenging group stage, featuring Algeria, Ivory Coast, and Tunisia. Adebayor also addressed threats received after making his announcement, stating that legal action would be taken against those responsible for hateful messages.

Emmanuel Adebayor, the captain of the Togo national team, has announced the temporary suspension of his international career with the Togo Eperviers and will not participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) 2013 in South Africa. Adebayor cited the “somewhat unhealthy atmosphere” within the team as the primary reason for his decision. He expressed concern about the lack of transparency and financial issues within the Togolese Football Federation, particularly regarding camp travel bonuses. Adebayor highlighted instances where players were not paid their bonuses and questioned the allocation of funds for match organization. He criticized the president of the federation, Gabriel Améyi, and emphasized the need for a change in the conditions and preparation for the CAN. Adebayor also mentioned his support for government initiatives to organize the CAN properly but expressed uncertainty about the team’s prospects under existing conditions, raising the possibility of foregoing participation in the tournament.

Kossi Agassa, the goalkeeper, supports Adebayor: “  At the end of the match, the players left to see the president of the Federation. He replied that the Togolese government has not given him the match bonuses and that as soon as he returns to Lomé, he will check with them on site. The government only gave him money for travel and camping expenses. Then, Adebayor knew that he (President Ayémi, editor’s note) took money from the Moroccan authorities. He called the president to ask if he received the money. The president replied that there was nothing even though Adebayor had confirmation that he had received money  .
“  Adebayor is right to ask where this money went and to seek the truth. I agree with him in asking about it. Things have to go in the right direction  .”
“  Today, we are not going to lose energy left and right. It’s up to us players to show solidarity and try to prepare well for CAN 2013 because we know what is important to us. For the bonuses, the president told us that the Togolese government had to give them to us, so we are waiting to receive them  .”
Daré Nibombé recognizes that the situation is serious. “  The team is divided. There are clans. They accuse me and Serge Akakpo (another player) of being in the pay of President Gabriel Améyi. The other clan is led by Adebayor, Agassa and Romao  .  The new defector to Malaysia nevertheless confides that he holds the keys to resolving the crisis: “  It is possible to resolve the problem within the Eperviers. I’m going to call Sheyi after the show and I’m going to tell her how to get out of this crisis. Not everything Adebayor said is false, but now is not the right time to make this media outing. There is a certain crisis of confidence between the coach and Sheyi and between Sheyi and the president  .”
Can Togo get out of this crisis?
It would be so necessary!
Let’s hope the crisis is managed by then!!!!
