Joseph Nguekam, the former general president of Astres de Douala, passed away on December 18, 2013, in Douala, Cameroon. Nguekam, aged 49, succumbed to a cardiovascular arrest after suffering an attack on December 3, 2013. He had served as the head of Astres football club for 11 years and left his position in March 2013, citing being “too busy.” During his tenure, Astres achieved notable success, becoming vice-champions of Cameroon in 2010 and reaching the quarter-finals of the African Football Confederation Cup in 2007. Besides his contributions to football, Nguekam was a doctor in finance and accounting, teaching at university institutions in Cameroon and serving as the financial director of the Dieudonné Kamdem Group.
